Welcome to the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Harp and Shamrock Division, located in Greenville, South Carolina.
The division was established on June 3, 1998, the Feast Day of Saint Kevin, Patron of Dublin, in response to an expanded desire for Irish Catholic fellowship in the upstate area. The division name, Harp and Shamrock, was derived from Ireland’s two most world renown traditions.
The Ancient Order of Hibernians is the oldest Catholic lay organization in America and strives to perpetuate our motto of “Friendship, Unity and Christian Charity” in the actions of our members. To this end, the members of the Harp and Shamrock division have sponsored numerous activities to support local organizations and increase awareness of our Irish culture.
Among the organizations receiving donations from the AOH are Catholic Radio, Poor Clare Sisters, St. Anthony’s School, Knights of Columbus, Notre Dame Glee Club, Fountain Inn Civic Center, St. Joseph’s School, Habitat for Humanity, A Child’s Haven, St. Paul the Apostle School and St. Jude Children Research Hospital. Our Most recent event, The Halfway to St. Patrick’s Day Party, raised $7,000.00 for the Meyer Center for Special Children.
A major endeavor this this year will be the establishment of an annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Irish Festival in 2012. We are diligently seeking sponsors for this event.
We hope you find the content of our website informative and invite you to join our organization. To all wishing to be members, we say “Cead Mile Failte”; A hundred thousand welcomes!
